Vein Closure with Medical Glue

This is one of the outpatient procedures that takes approximately 30 minutes and does not require a stay at the clinic afterward. It allows for non-invasive treatment of varicose veins by sealing segments of the diseased great or small saphenous vein without the need for general anesthesia.
At VENA CLINIC, we use a special medical adhesive called **Venex** (n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate). This substance is also used in various vascular and neurosurgical procedures. In phlebology, it is applied to close segments of diseased, incompetent veins. Unlike traditional surgical methods, this procedure does not involve removing the veins, which is why adhesive vein closure is considered a **non-invasive treatment for varicose veins**.
What does varicose vein glue treatment look like?
The procedure is performed under Doppler ultrasound guidance, and for the patient's comfort, the area being treated is anesthetized. To close the affected section of the diseased vein, a thin catheter is inserted through a small needle (usually in the inner side of the calf). A special adhesive is delivered through the catheter in small amounts using a special "gun." The bonding process is triggered by applying pressure with the ultrasound probe.
This method of non-invasive varicose vein treatment initiates the fibrosis of the closed segments of the diseased vessels, which stops blood from flowing through them and redirects it to the remaining healthy veins.
Who can benefit from this method of varicose vein treatment?
The glue method is especially recommended for individuals who are overweight or have swollen legs, as well as for those preparing for orthopedic procedures who have been diagnosed with venous insufficiency.
This non-invasive procedure allows patients to return to their daily activities almost immediately. It is not used for varicose veins that have already been treated in the past or in cases where the veins have a very twisted course. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are also contraindications.
In some cases, sclerotherapy may be performed during the same session in addition to sealing segments of the diseased vein, in order to enhance the results and shorten the overall treatment time for venous insufficiency in the legs.
